Starting a New Chapter

Welcome to my new blog Nature as Art photography by Emily J. Carter.

In the past, my previous blog name was Hoofbeats and Footprints by Emily Carter Mitchell which is hosted on Word press. It’s been a few years since I’ve posted something new on that blog as I had posted daily for over six years and simply ran out of steam to continue writing.

As with each one of us, life flashes past us, presenting new challenges, unexpected opportunities and even loss of loved ones which is what I have been working through the past two years.

As a digital artist, I find nature to always be the source for healing one’s soul, refreshing the mind and spirit, and grounding of ourselves. It is this spiritual and emotional connection with nature that my photo work has expressed over the past decade.

It doesn't matter if you fall down; everyone does. What matters is what you do next. You either stay down or rise up again. That's what determines your strength.

Along with the sudden and tragic loss of my husband of 21 years, my aging body decided to revolt with arthritis in both knees as well as two torn meniscus. I am still recovering from surgery back in February 2023, but stubborn as I am. I’m determined not to let this slow me down more than it already has.

So the traveling has begun and 2023 has been spent scouting and coming up with new adventures that I can share with you in person. Some are short weekends, some are longer, and even international !

I’ve had the good fortune to be able to join forces with two incredible professional photographers for two exclusive photography workshops. The first is with Jay P.  Fleming, so many locals in the Maryland area know him well. We are offering our first Galapagos Cruise in January 2024 and I am adding a fantastic bird photography extension in the Cloud Forest region of Mindo in Ecuador.

Then in February 2024, I will be in Southwest Florida with Jackie Kramer (Jackie Kramer Fine Art Photography) offering a Birds and Blooms week-long photography workshop.

I’m excited for what 2024 will bring for us, and I can’t wait to be able to share my in-depth knowledge of nature photography with you. Whether it be bird photography, wildlife photography, landscape photography, floral photography and even abstracts, we can do it all.
